Home to the amazing Angkor Wat temples, Cambodia is a destination that does not disappoint. When planning your trip here there are a few things to consider with weather, so let’s explore the best time of the year to visit.
Due to the warm climate, it can be seen as a year round destination. However, it is important note is that Cambodia has two distinct seasons (Wet and Dry). Each come with their advantages and disadvantages.
Dry Season (November to March)
This is peak time for visiting Cambodia and when most people (myself included) will plan their trips. Stroll the streets of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, make the trek to Angor Wat for sunrise or take it slower on the island of Koh Rong for a few days. The prices will be higher (but overall pretty cheap in comparison to Europe or the US and still a great budget destination… that’s one of the things I really love about South east Asia!).
Wet Season (May to September)
This is one of the best times to visit the countryside as it will be all lush and green. Heavy downpours can occur, but often these will not last all day. You will also find less crowds at major tourist draw-cards like Angkor Wat.
Shoulder Season (April OR October)
If you want to avoid the crowds, get slightly better prices and do your best to escape most of the rain then you would want to visit in either April or October. April is very warm as it is leading straight into the dry season and October is great as the rains will have started to subside and landscape will still be green. It is also a good time to head out to the islands.
No matter what time of year you go, Cambodia is sure to be a great trip.
