The land of fondue, Federer and milk chocolate, Switzerland has much to offer all year around depending on what you like to do, the type of climate and landscapes you enjoy. Here are the best times to travel to Switzerland.
November to March
Winter in Switzerland is high season and a prime time to visit, especially when it comes to snow-sports. The ski resorts are crowded with those wanting to hit the slopes or curl up with a hot chocolate by a fireplace. Destinations to head to include Jungfrau, Zermatt and Matterhorn.
Seeing the Swiss alps blanketed in snow is pure magic and definitely an experience to add to the bucket list, especially for those that love alpine activities.
April to June
Spring is an ideal time for hikers, especially those on a budget…as the snow from winter has melted and the prices for accommodation are lower.
July to August
If you like sunshine, swimming and strolling cobbled streets in your shorts and tee then Summer is. However keep in mind that it can actually rain during summer. So make sure you have a few days up your sleeve in each destination, particularly if you are planning any outdoor activities. Destinations to head to include Zurich, Interlakken and Lucerne. If you wanting a charming city that isn’t Zurich then check out Geneva.
September to October
Switzerland in the Fall (or Autumn as we call it in Australia) is full of golden leaves and the summer crowds have started to thin, making it a little more affordable.
Overall
Switzerland is an enchanting destination at any time of the year, but make sure to save hard because it doesn’t come with a cheap price tag!
